The southeastern counties of Ohio experience some serious gaps in the availability of basic emergency services including food, shelter, clothing, and short-term assistance with rent or utilities. Several people and congregations in this part of the diocese are already active in providing such services and would be glad to network with you on needs and logistics.
Here is a list of emergency assistance ministries by location, with contact people. To find out about programs which best match what you are working to accomplish, send a query to diocesan Appalachian ministries consultant Mike Maloney at meamon@aol.com.
Many individuals and congregations are involved in such ministries, including:
The Caring Connection, supported by St. Luke's, Marietta, provides emergency funds to pay for up to 30 days of a prescription, with referrals for follow-up service.
Vinton County Care Coordinators, sponsored by Trinity, McArthur, serves terminally ill or homebound people through transportation to medical appointments, help in shopping for groceries and supplies, and home repairs.

EVE, Incorporated, which is supported by St. Luke's Marietta, is a shelter for battered women and children in Washington and Southern Noble counties. This program provides a haven for women and children, and offers them the skills and advocacy they need to start a new life free of the oppression of violence. The staff and volunteers have also worked closely with law enforcement and other officials to launch violence prevention and response programs in Washington County.
