Founded over 30 years ago as the Appalachian People's Service Organization (APSO) Episcopal Appalachian Ministries represents a coalition of 15 dioceses which span the Appalachian region. Though many people are surprised to hear that Ohio is part of Appalachia, our state includes 29 Appalachian counties clustered along the Ohio River and as far north as I-70. Appalachians make up a major part of Ohio's urban communities from Cincinnati to Toledo.
Each diocesan commission works with a unique array of ministries, many designed and carried out at the grassroots level. The Appalachian ministries in our diocese are among the liveliest and most diverse in the country, covering every aspect from economic development to the arts.
